I am usually a lurker. I enjoy reading what others have to say but to make comments on my own SCARY.
A little off topic but in away relates. I started the blog because I watched my daughter on her school blog and she did not care what she wrote about, she just did. I thought to have that courage. I always wanted to but was to scared. Since I enjoy books and found book challenges, I thought I would blog about books but I still am scared and wonder what people think, my writing style, when I write do I make sense. Everyone else's blog is better, why am I doing this. But I am so glad that I started to blog. Blogging is a wonderful world.
How does this relate to discussions groups? This is how I feel when I respond or think about responding to discussions that I am a member of scared and shy. Who ever heard of someone being shy over the Internet. I just feel that what I have to say is not important. But I am working on overcoming my fears.
P.S. I did not realize that this was for people who belong to the Early Review Group at Library Things. I hope that I did not step on anyone's shoes. I just loved the question and wanted to answer it.

Bravo to you for putting it out there! No need to be afraid. I'm wondering what it is you fear.. people's opinion of what you write? It doesn't look like you'd be writing anything really controversial, so I would not worry about that. Your opinion matters just as much as anyone else's. Leaving comments is a great way to start building relationships with others in a group. Go for it!

Thanks for the encouragement. People's opinion is one of the fears. The other is do I write well enough. In high school and in my college English class I was told I could not write. So that is always in the back of my mind. Even though it has been over xx years.

The basic mechanics of writing (punctuation, etc.) can be learned by anyone. I can't believe teachers would discourage you that way. That's horrible. I'm sorry that happened to you and that it has stuck with you. One of my best friends told me that her English professor in college called her a functional illiterate- he actually wrote that in red pen on an essay she turned in. She's a 40 year old attorney now but is still haunted by that comment, and is under-confident about her writing abilities- and she writes briefs and opinions all the time for work. Amazing how a few harsh critical words from someone whose opinion matters to you can affect you for years.
Like you, I'm usually a lurker, although I think Librarything has brought me a bit out of my shell :) Consider joining the EarlyReview group at LT, we're a pretty easygoing group!
Hi. I know exactly what you mean about it being scary to make comments in groups - I tend to be a lurker, too. But you shouldn't worry about expressing your opinions - your feelings are just as valid as anyone's. As far as I know, none of us in the group are professional reviewers - just people who like to read and then talk about it. No need to feel shy!
Even though you're not a LTer doesn't mean you can't join in the fun. Come visit with us and make a whole new group of friends. By the way I'm adding your blog link in with all the others so people can stop by and visit. We all have something say even if it's only important to us. I felt the same way when I started blogging last year. It can be a big, scary world out there in blog land. I've stepped on a couple of toes, inadvertently, apologized and moved on. Don't forget you won't, most likely, ever meet these people face to face. I started my own blog as way to communicate with my book club and it's taken on a life of it's own and one I'm so very glad to be a part of.
Hi and welcome to the TT. Don't be afraid (yes easy for me to say I know) but honestly you have the right to say what you think and your opinion is as meaningful as the next persons. It took me a few years to reach that conclusion but I finally got there.
I shouldn't worry about the Early Reviewers thing, but have you considered signing up for that too, writing a review and posting it on LT might help boost your confidence, you never know.
I just want to say thanks to everyone for their support and their words of encouragement. I am working on becoming a better blogger and confidence in commentting.
